Icarus Shawl - First Time Lace

Mentioned in my last post, I shared that I started a lace shawl. I bought this beautiful lace yarn on my recent visit to Mendocino's yarn shop. I bought 6 skeins of Jamieson's Ultra lace yarn in colorway Strawberry Crush, 502. The color is just so beautiful. The pictures don't do the color justice.

I wanted to find the perfect pattern. Something that looked a little difficult but was great for beginners. So I joined a ravelry group of lace knitters and asked for advice. With the help of a few people, I decided on the Icarus Shawl by Miriam L. Felton, aka MimKnits. Lace knitting is sooo tedious, yet VERY rewarding.

I must say, chart reading is harder then I thought. Slowly, I am getting the hang of it. Thankfully, this pattern also has written instructions.

I have decided that the best way to knit this shawl is with beautiful instrumental music and a caramel frappuccino from Starbucks. Cant get any better then that, except for maybe a romantic location. How about Prince Edward Island in the fall....

So very pretty Rebekah!--- and you have to somehow combine that fabric with your finished shawl. Maybe a cute little a-line skirt? ;) I can recommend a great book--- you probably already have it you crafty girl! It's called Sew What Skirts.

Found your blog on Ravelry. I'm planning to try the Icarus Shawl as well. Yours will be beautiful--such lovely yarn!

Ohh I love this..I think I will purchase this shaw. My problem is I can do feather and fan but sometimes even with a life line I have missed a stitch or whatever and end up ripping out. This looks like just what I need for my neices wedding. If you think its a beginner I may give a try. Beautiful work. Neicee
