Winter WIP's #2

Here is another great FREE scarfelt pattern, the Linen Stitch Scarf. This pattern was created by Bella Knitting.

I just loved this pattern. Can you tell that I am addicted to scarflets AND using malabrigo yarn?

This pattern was such a fast knit. A great stitch pattern created by using lots of slips.

This scarfelt has been sitting in my basket since before my move just waiting for buttons. This one is now ready for my winter knits storage.

Glacier Hat by Karen

I was lucky enough to be able to pattern test this adorable hat "Glacier" designed by Karen at Short Story Long.

It was the first hat I have ever made and it was so easy. This is a great pattern for first time hat knitters and even first time cable knitters.

Very easy to memorize, it was a blast to knit. I was even able to use my favorite yarn: Malabrigo Worsted.

You can buy this great pattern for only 4$ over at Ravelry. Go check it out!

Thanks Karen for such an awesome pattern!

Embroidery, Patterns, and Ripples. Oh My!

 Embroidery,

My second attempt at embroidery and first attempt at following a pattern was a lot of fun. Not sure why, but I am a big fan of little red mushrooms. I feel it must stem from my childhood addiction to playing Nintendo's Super Mario 3. lol

Getting tired of free hand embroydery, I decided to follow a pattern. I found this cute little pattern from Andrea Zuill's Blog. She also has a lot of other fun free patterns on her blog. I took this mushroom off of her free Gnome Pattern. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Patterns,

I had the privilege this week of spending time with a lovely lady who is an avid crocheter. We spent a whole afternoon talking about crochet. She has patterns galore that she has collected over the years! She even let me take a stack home of new and old crochet patterns to borrow and look through.

I even found a vintage gem! A bookful of lace edgings, copywrite from 1937. I have been wanting to crochet lace and am very excited to find these vintage patterns. Sadly, I have to give them back. But until then, I plan on soaking up all the beautiful patterns. Take a look at the inside of this vintage gem!

and Ripples! Oh My!

She even let me borrow her most used afghan pattern: The Granny Ripple. I was able to see many finished examples of this quilt pattern she had done. Loving Ripples and Granny Squares, I had to try this pattern combination! Already, I have my yarn and am 5 rows into it. I am in love with this afghan pattern!

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll.......

As the song goes.....

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

Let me put my arms a-bout you,

I could nev-er live with-out you;

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

If you ev-er leave me how my heart will ache,

I want to hug you but I fear you'd break

 Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, you beau-ti-ful doll!

Well this great big beautiful doll has left me, but to a wonderful home! This cute pattern is Ana Paula Rimoli's Anatolia pattern from her Etsy Shop of crochet patterns. I just love this doll pattern.

Last year, I made a doll I named Gretel and brought her to church to show a couple of ladies. One lady in particular came up to me and wanted to buy one because she had a special someone she wanted to give it to. However, NOT being able to sell one, I decided to make it for her as a Christmas gift and promised to start on the doll after Christmas.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I JUST finished the promised doll last week! Took me a while, but she turned out ADORABLE! In fact, so adorable it was hard to let her go. But she is going to a good home, so it was well worth it. :)

My two dolls became the best of friends during their photo shoot as you can see below. Please go check out that pattern! It really is a fun one.

Amigurumi Sightings....

My husband and I were down at the marina for Fourth of July weekend taking pictures, when I had my first Amigurumi Sighting!

A cute little snail! Isn't he cute? He was creeping around a little stump looking at flowers. I decided to stop by and say "hello".

This snail design is from Amigurumi Designer Amy Gaines. This lovely pattern was purchased from her Etsy Shop. A very fun pattern to make, it came with wonderful step by step instructions. A must buy for sure!

After a nice photo shoot with mr. snail, we headed to the duck pond with some cracked corn to feed the ducks. I fed them, while my husband took many snapshots of these sweet little ducks. Evidence below. :)

We then headed off for a walk and came across this beautiful plant! I have never seen flowers like this before!

They were very fragrant. So fragrant, we started getting allergic reactions.

 Then I saw it!

 My second Amigurumi Sighting...

a Cute little Bumble Bee!

No wonder we started getting allergic reactions. This bush attracts bees. Before we left, I was able to get one snapshot of the Bumble Bee and then he was off.

A little disappointed I didn't get more shots, I decided to have another go of it later when my allergies weren't so bad. Besides, it was sooo HOT! In fact, it was soo HOT, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk! Don't believe me? Proof below!

Thanks to Ana Paula Rimoli for this free cute pattern! :)

It really was a fun day! I always love spending time with my husband. :)

First Time Embroidery

Ever since I made my bottlecap pincushion, I have had a hankering to do some embroidery. All the bottlecap pincushions I saw had been embroidered, but I had no clue where to start!

Then I found this great book by Aimee Ray: Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners.

I was hooked! So I wanted to share with you my first tries at embroidery. I did these three free hand, before I found the beauty of patterns. One thing I did learn is it is very hard to draw on felt!

I have added an embroidery section to my "Fabulous Links" page, so don't forget to check that out.

My top two favorite embroidery sites that I cant get enough of are Carina's Craftblog and Feeling Stitchy. These two sights are a must see for any embroidery fan! They are also chalked full of lovely pictures and inspiration.

In a week and half, I am off to the ocean. Needing a craft to take with me, I found a lovely embroidery pattern, Tree of Life, by Carina's Craftblog that I purchased in her Artfire Shop, Polka and Bloom. I cant wait to get started!

I can just see myself by the ocean, embroidery hoop in hand.... sigh ... But until then...

Back to Crafting! :)

Mother's Day Crafting

I hope everybody had a very special Mother's Day!

Last week, I was able to make a very fun sewing project for my mother. Not an avid sewer, except for maybe quilting, it was quite a challenge. But it was a lot of fun!

At my local quilt shop, I found a pattern for a Cupcake Pincushion by Portabellopixie Boutique patterns.

This pattern was designed by Sandi Henderson. She did a great job on her pattern. It is chalked full of colorful pictures along side the step by step directions. The thing I love about designer Sandi Henderson is that she made her patterns with Etsy Crafters in mind. Unlike, a lot of other designers, she allows home sewers to sell products made from her patterns. So go and check out her patterns! You can buy this pattern: here!

May Flowers!

April showers brings May flowers in all forms! :) Nature and crochet! What I love the best about crochet flowers, is no allergies! So in honor of May, I wanted to post a flower picture I took along with a fun new crochet flower pattern I found from Roman Sock!

The photo to your left was taken in Mendocino's Botanical Gardens. Last year, my husband took me there for my 25th birthday. It was really beautiful! I came away with a ton of flower and ocean pictures.

Next photo is of my newest crochet flower find! This lovely pattern is from Roman Sock. She gives the pattern free on her website! I am not sure what I am making with the flowers yet. But I just love looking at them as I sew flowers together!

Happy May!
