a Pleasant 4th

The 4th of July came very fast and I quickly realized that I had nothing to wear patriotic for church. Of course, when did I realize this?.... 1 am to be exact... the night before!

So Heather Bailey came to my rescue! :) I remembered a video and blog entry of her showing how to make these fabric flowers. I even made one for my craft room curtains a while ago which remains to be unblogged for the moment.

Thankfully, I had some left over patriotic fabric from my husband's in progress quilt. To save time, instead of the hand sewing, I used my machine to sew using very wide stitches so I could gather the fabric. A great time saver for sure. Instead of felt for the center, I hot glued a wooden button to finish off the look.

In order to attach it to my hair, I hot glued a felt circle and then attached a hair clip. This project was just what I needed to add to my vintage inspired hair-do. I just love it when things work out, even if it is at 1am. :)

It turned out to be a fun patriotic day with church in the morning, a potluck, church in the evening, and then time with my husbands family setting off fireworks and enjoying each others company.

Did I mention the pie? :)

Fabric wrapped canvas

Always wanting to try fabric covered canvas, I finally found the perfect spot. I bought this awesome wooden door frame at a junk yard in San Fransisco. All it took was a little sanding and 2 hangers on the back. I decided to keep its original paint because it added to the rustic look. It now hangs above my couch.

These cute bird vases that I adore were put up last week. This week, I needed to add a little more to my door frame. So yesterday, while visiting Michael's Craft Store, I picked up 2 blank canvas to showcase my favorite fabric.

These are real simple to make!

All you need is:

  • a Staple Gun with staples
  • Fabric Sizzors
  • a Canvas (the size of your choice)
  • your favorite fabric (cut aprox. 2 inches wider then the Canvas)

Laying canvas right side down on wrong side of fabric, staple opposite sides to prevent bunching. Make sure fabric is taught but not to tight.

Next staple other two sides. Remember not to staple to close to the corners to give you room to work.

I had the hardest time figuring out the corners. I am still not sure exactly how I did it . Mainly because each time I did it differently, but in the end it looked like this. Sort of like your wrapping a present.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the left side.

Scrap Happy

Being new to quilting, I have never had scraps before. I must be a quilter, because it was an instinct to save any scrap of this lovely discontinued Freshcut Fabric by Heather Bailey. My favorite fabric line of all time had to be used with nothing to spare. :) So I took my pile of scraps and sat down at the sewing machine. I randomly started sewing pieces together and it transformed into this beautiful mini lap quilt top. I'm in love!

Aqua Knobs and Chaotic Quilting

Look what came today! SO excited! I found these delicious Antique Delphite aqua milk glass knobs on ebay. I am so in love with these! I have no clue what I will use these for, but whatever use, they will fit right in! I cant stop drooling over these 6 beautiful aqua knobs. I love ebay!

Below is a quilt in progress. It has been in progress for 2 months! ugh! The way I have been feeling, I just cant seem to get this done! Last week, I spent a few hours on it trying to get this off my craft room floor. So tired of stepping over it. So my main goal this next week is to get this quilt top sewn. It is made from Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabric collection using the Lap Quilt Pattern "Freshcut Quilt" from her site. I still have to sew more strips together, then cut and sew together the blocks.

I cant wait until my energy comes back! But until then it is mindless crocheting as seen below that will be my choice of craft.

Embroidery Thread Bobbins

I am IN-Love with these Bobbins! Inspired by Heather Bailey! I had a great time out at my Local craft store picking out all the supplies! I bought .99 cent paint, a dowel rod, satin varnish, wood glue, a paint brush, and wooden finials! I even had to go to Ace to get a cheap saw to cut my dowel rod up! I spend a whole evening on this fun project and cant wait to make more!

This was very easy! I cut my dowel rod up into 4 inch segments. Stuck the wooden finials onto the dowel rod with a little glue, painted them, distressed them, varnished them, and then wound them up! :)

I even found yummy Heather Bailey Fabric for my picture background! What could be more fun than that! I really had a BLAST! Hope you enjoy the pictures! :)
