a Pleasant 4th

The 4th of July came very fast and I quickly realized that I had nothing to wear patriotic for church. Of course, when did I realize this?.... 1 am to be exact... the night before!

So Heather Bailey came to my rescue! :) I remembered a video and blog entry of her showing how to make these fabric flowers. I even made one for my craft room curtains a while ago which remains to be unblogged for the moment.

Thankfully, I had some left over patriotic fabric from my husband's in progress quilt. To save time, instead of the hand sewing, I used my machine to sew using very wide stitches so I could gather the fabric. A great time saver for sure. Instead of felt for the center, I hot glued a wooden button to finish off the look.

In order to attach it to my hair, I hot glued a felt circle and then attached a hair clip. This project was just what I needed to add to my vintage inspired hair-do. I just love it when things work out, even if it is at 1am. :)

It turned out to be a fun patriotic day with church in the morning, a potluck, church in the evening, and then time with my husbands family setting off fireworks and enjoying each others company.

Did I mention the pie? :)

Fabric wrapped canvas

Always wanting to try fabric covered canvas, I finally found the perfect spot. I bought this awesome wooden door frame at a junk yard in San Fransisco. All it took was a little sanding and 2 hangers on the back. I decided to keep its original paint because it added to the rustic look. It now hangs above my couch.

These cute bird vases that I adore were put up last week. This week, I needed to add a little more to my door frame. So yesterday, while visiting Michael's Craft Store, I picked up 2 blank canvas to showcase my favorite fabric.

These are real simple to make!

All you need is:

  • a Staple Gun with staples
  • Fabric Sizzors
  • a Canvas (the size of your choice)
  • your favorite fabric (cut aprox. 2 inches wider then the Canvas)

Laying canvas right side down on wrong side of fabric, staple opposite sides to prevent bunching. Make sure fabric is taught but not to tight.

Next staple other two sides. Remember not to staple to close to the corners to give you room to work.

I had the hardest time figuring out the corners. I am still not sure exactly how I did it . Mainly because each time I did it differently, but in the end it looked like this. Sort of like your wrapping a present.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the left side.

Scrap Happy

Being new to quilting, I have never had scraps before. I must be a quilter, because it was an instinct to save any scrap of this lovely discontinued Freshcut Fabric by Heather Bailey. My favorite fabric line of all time had to be used with nothing to spare. :) So I took my pile of scraps and sat down at the sewing machine. I randomly started sewing pieces together and it transformed into this beautiful mini lap quilt top. I'm in love!

One Happy Homemaker!

I have never been known as the greatest bargain hunter, but last week I hit the jackpot! With a new house comes new windows. Never needed curtains, yet always wanted some. Now is my chance. Only one problem. There are 7 windows and Joanne Fabric's fabric is 25$ a yard!! That means, I can only afford a window every 3 months. That's a lot of waiting and saving up.

I had my heart set on this beautiful fabric from Joanns for my master bedroom. Isn't it beautiful? sigh. I found it and knew this fabric was for me.

25$ a yard was a bit much, but decided I would save up for this must have fabric anyways.

Then Home Fabrics outlets came into my life. I decided to stop by last Friday to see what this store was all about. I walked in and my mouth dropped open. Bolts and bolts of home decor fabric and the average price was 5$ a yard. I started scanning the isles of bolt after bolt of lovely fabric. Then I saw it, my FABRIC! Normally 5$ a yard, I got it for 2$ a yard! The only catch was I had to buy what was left on the bolt because it was on clearance. No problem, 4 1/2 years was do-able.

I even came across the fabric that is on my couch. Then I found the perfect fabric for my living room draperies! Heaven!

Want to know how much I saved on all this lovely fabric? I bought 20 yards total at an average of 3$ a yard. At Joanns this would have cost me 500$, but I only spent 60$ That is a savings of 440 dollars!!!! I was in fabric heaven leaving that store. Hugging my fabric in excitement, I headed off to show my husband my amazing bargain. Now I can start on my curtains! This will be my next challange. I have never made curtains before. Want to join me for the ride?

Ok, so I have decided that moving is a complete drag! We are moving in a little over a month and I have so much to pack! Which means hardly any crafting or photography or even new etsy store items! Whats a girl to do with no crafting?! Go Crazy?! Ok, so maybe I already am crazy! :) Since I have been way to busy to keep up with my crafts and online fun, I have decided to at least share with you this really great tutorial that I found through the blog Paint In My Hair!

She posted a great tutorial on The Undercover Crate! So cute! I am dying to do this tutorial just as soon as I get that second bedroom in a month and a half!  So, Check it out! The cool thing about this is, she put it in PDF form which means all you have to do is download it and it is in this great format for printing! But the best thing? It's FREE! :)
