Embroidery, Patterns, and Ripples. Oh My!

 Embroidery,

My second attempt at embroidery and first attempt at following a pattern was a lot of fun. Not sure why, but I am a big fan of little red mushrooms. I feel it must stem from my childhood addiction to playing Nintendo's Super Mario 3. lol

Getting tired of free hand embroydery, I decided to follow a pattern. I found this cute little pattern from Andrea Zuill's Blog. She also has a lot of other fun free patterns on her blog. I took this mushroom off of her free Gnome Pattern. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Patterns,

I had the privilege this week of spending time with a lovely lady who is an avid crocheter. We spent a whole afternoon talking about crochet. She has patterns galore that she has collected over the years! She even let me take a stack home of new and old crochet patterns to borrow and look through.

I even found a vintage gem! A bookful of lace edgings, copywrite from 1937. I have been wanting to crochet lace and am very excited to find these vintage patterns. Sadly, I have to give them back. But until then, I plan on soaking up all the beautiful patterns. Take a look at the inside of this vintage gem!

and Ripples! Oh My!

She even let me borrow her most used afghan pattern: The Granny Ripple. I was able to see many finished examples of this quilt pattern she had done. Loving Ripples and Granny Squares, I had to try this pattern combination! Already, I have my yarn and am 5 rows into it. I am in love with this afghan pattern!

First Time Embroidery

Ever since I made my bottlecap pincushion, I have had a hankering to do some embroidery. All the bottlecap pincushions I saw had been embroidered, but I had no clue where to start!

Then I found this great book by Aimee Ray: Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners.

I was hooked! So I wanted to share with you my first tries at embroidery. I did these three free hand, before I found the beauty of patterns. One thing I did learn is it is very hard to draw on felt!

I have added an embroidery section to my "Fabulous Links" page, so don't forget to check that out.

My top two favorite embroidery sites that I cant get enough of are Carina's Craftblog and Feeling Stitchy. These two sights are a must see for any embroidery fan! They are also chalked full of lovely pictures and inspiration.

In a week and half, I am off to the ocean. Needing a craft to take with me, I found a lovely embroidery pattern, Tree of Life, by Carina's Craftblog that I purchased in her Artfire Shop, Polka and Bloom. I cant wait to get started!

I can just see myself by the ocean, embroidery hoop in hand.... sigh ... But until then...
