Mother's Day Presents: Flower Pin - Part 1

I hope all the mothers out there had a special Mother's Day. This past week, was spent making presents for my Mom and Mother-in-law. For a while now, I have been wanting to try my hand at making crochet flower pins and this was the perfect occasion.

I found a great crochet flower tutorial from Attic24. She has so many cute ideas and this flower is one of my favorites. Her blog is a must-visit.

Making these pins are super easy. All you need is:

  • a Crocheted Flower
  • a Pin Back by Darice
  • 2 felt circles the size of the back of your flower
  • Needle and Thread
  • a Hot Glue Gun

    1. After you have crocheted your flower, cut 2 felt circles the size of the flower back.
    2. Stack the 2 felt circles and Sew on the pin back.
    3. Then hot glue the felt to the back of the flower.

See? Super easy! This project has so many possibilities. There are so many types of crocheted flowers out there. Give it a try!

Chilly Willy the Penguin

My sister-in-law wanted to know if I had a penguin crochet pattern. Unfortunately I did not, so I started my search for the perfect Penguin. There were a lot of penguin's out there that were very cute. But none of them were what I had in mind.

I wanted him to look like Chilly Willy. Then I found the perfect pattern on flickr by Anuko! Only one small problem.... She did not sell or write out the pattern. So I had to figure it out all on my own. Because I am not selling the pattern or making it for sale, I figured it was ok to copy her idea. I even got the ok from Anuko to post my photo on flickr.

You must check out all of her great crochet creations. She is very creative.

So without further ado:

Introducing "Chilly Willy"

My Sister-in-law loved Chilly Willy. It was hard for me not to want to keep him for myself. :)

Frantic Packing?!

We could be moving in a month! So excited! If all goes well, this month will be full of frantic packing! So excited! SO LONG Apartment living! House living here I come! woohoo!

My quilt is still laying on the floor waiting to be sewn. Cant seem to catch up with anything! But, I have been crocheting like crazy! I am making these really cute face scrubbies to sell in my shop that I designed. Now I just need to list them and make a set for me. :)

This month is going to be one busy month. Full of packing and organization. Which means I will only be able to craft in the evenings.

In my new place, I just might be able to get more things done! I have a terrible time concentrating when there are noises around me. For example, constant stomping above, slamming doors, people talking outside my craft room....and so on. With a house, it will be peaceful. I will be able to concentrate on writing patterns as late as I want without worrying about bothering neighbors.....October cant come fast enough! :) House living will look good on me. :)

Aqua Knobs and Chaotic Quilting

Look what came today! SO excited! I found these delicious Antique Delphite aqua milk glass knobs on ebay. I am so in love with these! I have no clue what I will use these for, but whatever use, they will fit right in! I cant stop drooling over these 6 beautiful aqua knobs. I love ebay!

Below is a quilt in progress. It has been in progress for 2 months! ugh! The way I have been feeling, I just cant seem to get this done! Last week, I spent a few hours on it trying to get this off my craft room floor. So tired of stepping over it. So my main goal this next week is to get this quilt top sewn. It is made from Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabric collection using the Lap Quilt Pattern "Freshcut Quilt" from her site. I still have to sew more strips together, then cut and sew together the blocks.

I cant wait until my energy comes back! But until then it is mindless crocheting as seen below that will be my choice of craft.

Coastal Crafting

This past weekend, I was able to take a small vacation up the coast to visit with my husbands family. They rented a house by the ocean up near Jenner, California. It was breathtaking. Our bedroom had double doors that opened to a view of the sea. I even brought my granny ripple to work on and some embroidery.

I was amazed at how the colors I chose for this afghan matched the sea. The waves and the blue and green color were very fitting for a coastal craft. Didn't work on as much as I would have liked, which is fine because I am on a Ripple Afghan CAL through Ravelry. So this afghan isn't suppose to be done till the end of the month.

After a lovely visit with the family, Harrison and I headed up the coast. We stopped by Mendocino and found this lovely yarn shop. I ended up buying 6 skeins of yarn for a lace shawl. Never having tried a lace shawl, I began searching for the perfect first time pattern with help from Ravelry. Pattern will be revealed soon! :)

I just love Mendocino with all the blooming flowers and had to snatch my husbands camera to take a few flower shots. It was a lovely trip, but am glad to be back to my crafting room. Let the projects begin!

Embroidery, Patterns, and Ripples. Oh My!

 Embroidery,

My second attempt at embroidery and first attempt at following a pattern was a lot of fun. Not sure why, but I am a big fan of little red mushrooms. I feel it must stem from my childhood addiction to playing Nintendo's Super Mario 3. lol

Getting tired of free hand embroydery, I decided to follow a pattern. I found this cute little pattern from Andrea Zuill's Blog. She also has a lot of other fun free patterns on her blog. I took this mushroom off of her free Gnome Pattern. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Patterns,

I had the privilege this week of spending time with a lovely lady who is an avid crocheter. We spent a whole afternoon talking about crochet. She has patterns galore that she has collected over the years! She even let me take a stack home of new and old crochet patterns to borrow and look through.

I even found a vintage gem! A bookful of lace edgings, copywrite from 1937. I have been wanting to crochet lace and am very excited to find these vintage patterns. Sadly, I have to give them back. But until then, I plan on soaking up all the beautiful patterns. Take a look at the inside of this vintage gem!

and Ripples! Oh My!

She even let me borrow her most used afghan pattern: The Granny Ripple. I was able to see many finished examples of this quilt pattern she had done. Loving Ripples and Granny Squares, I had to try this pattern combination! Already, I have my yarn and am 5 rows into it. I am in love with this afghan pattern!

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll.......

As the song goes.....

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

Let me put my arms a-bout you,

I could nev-er live with-out you;

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

If you ev-er leave me how my heart will ache,

I want to hug you but I fear you'd break

 Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, you beau-ti-ful doll!

Well this great big beautiful doll has left me, but to a wonderful home! This cute pattern is Ana Paula Rimoli's Anatolia pattern from her Etsy Shop of crochet patterns. I just love this doll pattern.

Last year, I made a doll I named Gretel and brought her to church to show a couple of ladies. One lady in particular came up to me and wanted to buy one because she had a special someone she wanted to give it to. However, NOT being able to sell one, I decided to make it for her as a Christmas gift and promised to start on the doll after Christmas.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I JUST finished the promised doll last week! Took me a while, but she turned out ADORABLE! In fact, so adorable it was hard to let her go. But she is going to a good home, so it was well worth it. :)

My two dolls became the best of friends during their photo shoot as you can see below. Please go check out that pattern! It really is a fun one.
