Chilly Willy the Penguin

My sister-in-law wanted to know if I had a penguin crochet pattern. Unfortunately I did not, so I started my search for the perfect Penguin. There were a lot of penguin's out there that were very cute. But none of them were what I had in mind.

I wanted him to look like Chilly Willy. Then I found the perfect pattern on flickr by Anuko! Only one small problem.... She did not sell or write out the pattern. So I had to figure it out all on my own. Because I am not selling the pattern or making it for sale, I figured it was ok to copy her idea. I even got the ok from Anuko to post my photo on flickr.

You must check out all of her great crochet creations. She is very creative.

So without further ado:

Introducing "Chilly Willy"

My Sister-in-law loved Chilly Willy. It was hard for me not to want to keep him for myself. :)

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll.......

As the song goes.....

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

Let me put my arms a-bout you,

I could nev-er live with-out you;

Oh! you beau-ti-ful doll,

you great big beau-ti-ful doll!

If you ev-er leave me how my heart will ache,

I want to hug you but I fear you'd break

 Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, you beau-ti-ful doll!

Well this great big beautiful doll has left me, but to a wonderful home! This cute pattern is Ana Paula Rimoli's Anatolia pattern from her Etsy Shop of crochet patterns. I just love this doll pattern.

Last year, I made a doll I named Gretel and brought her to church to show a couple of ladies. One lady in particular came up to me and wanted to buy one because she had a special someone she wanted to give it to. However, NOT being able to sell one, I decided to make it for her as a Christmas gift and promised to start on the doll after Christmas.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I JUST finished the promised doll last week! Took me a while, but she turned out ADORABLE! In fact, so adorable it was hard to let her go. But she is going to a good home, so it was well worth it. :)

My two dolls became the best of friends during their photo shoot as you can see below. Please go check out that pattern! It really is a fun one.

Amigurumi Sightings....

My husband and I were down at the marina for Fourth of July weekend taking pictures, when I had my first Amigurumi Sighting!

A cute little snail! Isn't he cute? He was creeping around a little stump looking at flowers. I decided to stop by and say "hello".

This snail design is from Amigurumi Designer Amy Gaines. This lovely pattern was purchased from her Etsy Shop. A very fun pattern to make, it came with wonderful step by step instructions. A must buy for sure!

After a nice photo shoot with mr. snail, we headed to the duck pond with some cracked corn to feed the ducks. I fed them, while my husband took many snapshots of these sweet little ducks. Evidence below. :)

We then headed off for a walk and came across this beautiful plant! I have never seen flowers like this before!

They were very fragrant. So fragrant, we started getting allergic reactions.

 Then I saw it!

 My second Amigurumi Sighting...

a Cute little Bumble Bee!

No wonder we started getting allergic reactions. This bush attracts bees. Before we left, I was able to get one snapshot of the Bumble Bee and then he was off.

A little disappointed I didn't get more shots, I decided to have another go of it later when my allergies weren't so bad. Besides, it was sooo HOT! In fact, it was soo HOT, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk! Don't believe me? Proof below!

Thanks to Ana Paula Rimoli for this free cute pattern! :)

It really was a fun day! I always love spending time with my husband. :)

Dodo Bird!

I found this fun amigurumi pattern for a Dodo bird! So fun! I had to try. This little guy was made last October, but sat around waiting for me to give him some eyes. So, while cleaning yesterday, I came accross him. I gave him his site and took him for a photo shoot! :)

This pattern was created by Melissa Mall, and is called "Mauritius Dodo". You can find this fun pattern at crochetme.com. He really was fun to make!

2008 Celebration

2008 was full of new beginnings in my crafting world. I learned a lot of things this past year. I started out quilting and became a fabric addict. I then taught myself crochet by making amigurumi which led me to start my own designs. I then taught myself through the wonderful world of blogging and videos how to knit more then just the knit stitch. I learned how to pearl, knit in the round, and cables. This past year, I also found myself embarking in the Etsy World, launched BekahJan's Whimsical Ventures and found a great Ravelry Community full of fellow crafters.

This coming year I am hoping to advance in my crochet, knitting, and quilting skills. I also hope to make more designs, expand my Etsy Shop, share what I have learned with tutorials, and provide free crochet patterns.

So in celebration of all that I have learned, I put together just a few of the crochet projects I have done this past year into pictures.

I have made many of her patterns and have never been disappointed. Her pattern instructions are super easy to follow. Great for a beginner who wants pro results. She definitely gets 5 stars from me!
